Here\u2019s our hot take on cold emails for 2020.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>Cold Email Tip #1: Stop being so fancy<\/strong><br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We know you\u2019ve put a lot of effort into that beautifully styled email signature. Yes, it links to all your social channels, your website, and your favorite Queen live performance. It\u2019s gorgeous. But it\u2019s hurting your deliverability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Switch to plain text instead.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make your email look effortless and it will <em>feel <\/em>effortless. A plain text cold email without any links will not only help you maneuver around spam filters, but will also improve your reply rate. And it will keep getting you into the inbox in the future.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go take a second look at your email signature. We\u2019ll wait.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>Cold Email Tip #2: Don\u2019t go straight for the kill<\/strong><br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Does the final line in your cold emails look something like this?<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\"><em>\u201cAre you available this Friday to jump on a quick 15-minute call to discuss?\u201d<\/em><br><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>If so, you might want to reconsider.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>We<\/em> know how great you are, but it\u2019s important to remember your <em>prospects<\/em> don\u2019t know your winning personality and anecdotes. Not yet, anyway.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re busy people. And it\u2019s hard to transfer the value of jumping on a 15-minute call with a stranger for a product you don\u2019t know in under 200 words.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few months ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ImESSnH2nxI&amp;feature=youtu.be\">Predictable Revenue experimented<\/a> with a much more open ended closer. They tested a simple phrase:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\"> <strong>\u201cIs that something you\u2019re interested in hearing more about?\u201d<\/strong><br><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>The Predictable Revenue team called this the &#8216;indirect ask&#8217;. The results?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Emails with an indirect ask saw 3x more responses than the &#8216;let&#8217;s jump on a call&#8217; approach. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only did they get more positive replies because people felt less pressured, they also saw a big improvement in deliverability for their emails. People were less inclined to mark their emails as spam because of the less aggressive call to action.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s your favorite call to action in your sales email?<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>Cold Email Tip #3: Put extra thought into the opening line<\/strong><br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You know that an engaging opening line to your cold emails is important (AIDA framework anyone?)<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it\u2019s time to put some extra thought into it for 2020.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, preview your emails on a mobile device (chances are your prospect will receive the email on his phone).&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the preview looks something like&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\"><em>\u201cMy name is John and I\u2019m the Sales Director for\u2026\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><br><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>or<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\"><em>\u201cI found your profile on LinkedIn and am reaching out because...\u201d<\/em><br><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>chances are you\u2019re going straight to the trash folder.
